Color

Diamond colour is graded by comparing it to master stones under standardised artificial light equivalent to northern daylight. A diamond with a colour grade of D, E or F is considered to be colourless, while diamonds with a colour grade from K to M are designated as being faint yellow. For fancy coloured diamonds there is a different grading system that values the intensity of the colour.

Cut

Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and sparkle so intensely. We often think of a diamond's cut as shape (round, heart/oval/marquise, pear), but a diamond's cut grade is really about how well a diamond's facets interact with light. Precise artistry and workmanship are required to fashion a stone so its proportions, symmetry, and polish deliver the magnificent return of light only possible in a diamond. Diamond cut grades range from 'Excellent' to 'Poor'.

Clarity

A diamond is ”loupe clean” or “internally flawless” if, after examination by an experienced grader with a loupe 10 x under normal light conditions, it has been found free of internal characteristics. The other clarity grades are determined by the size, position, brightness and number of internal characteristics. External characteristics and structure phenomena can be mentioned under ”identification marks” or ”comments”. The lowest clarity grades on the scale (indicated by p for piqué) refer to inclusions that can be seen by an experienced grader with the naked eye.

Carat Weight

Carat weight refers to the size of your diamond and is an important factor in determining the value of a diamond.

Shape

Diamonds can be cut in various shapes. A diamond’s shape refers to its physical form and each diamond shape is very different, possessing unique characteristics. Even though shape is not a part of the 4 C's of diamonds, this element will have an impact on the appearance of your diamond. Since each diamond shape is cut to different specifications, they reflect light differently, giving each shape a unique fire and brilliance. At L'odyssee we apply the same high quality standards to all of our diamond shapes. We have an exceptional collection of traditional round diamonds and we also offer the finest non-round, or "fancy-shaped", diamonds available.
